In this section you will find office policies which establish guidelines for office conduct, procedures, and use of facilities to promote a professional and productive work environment at Droste. These policies apply to all employees, contractors, visitors, and guests within the premises of Droste.

Security / Safety
Intercom System: If someone rings the bell, pick-up the phone and ask who it is. The person at the door will be able to speak into the intercom to identify themselves. If you are expecting the person, buzz them in by pressing “ 6 ” and hang-up.
Threats to Safety: If you’re threatened or someone is here unauthorized, try to get to a secure place and dial 911 or, if possible, leave the office and get help from the doormen.
Building Fire Drills
In the event of a fire, or call for evacuation, do not use the elevators. Use either of the two staircases.
The first staircase is by the elevators (leads to the lobby)
The second staircase back by the freight elevator (leads to 33rd st).
If you are unable to take the stairs, or you have a client who is unable to take the stairs, go to the stairwell and wait for Fire Personnel. Call 911 and notify emergency services that there is a person in need of assistance in the stairwell on the 4th floor. You can use the fire phone in the hallway by the staircase entrance.
Before opening the door to the stairs, be sure to feel up high on the door for heat. If the door is hot to the touch, use the other stairwell. In the hallway there is a Fire Warden phone and a fire alarm which can be pulled in the event of a fire emergency. This will activate the alarm, intercom, and flashing lights. If you have any questions about this, please reference the posted guidelines on the back door in the break room.
In the event of a small fire, we have a fire extinguisher in the back. Simply remove the pin, point the black nozzle at the fire, and squeeze the silver trigger. Droste contracts with a company to service the fire extinguisher regularly.
Emergencies
-
Proceed as directed by building security, or in the absence of specific directions, go to either access to stairwells to exit the building. Find Step by step procedure HERE.
The Four Aces of High Rise Building Fire Safety: HERE
171 Madison Avenue has implemented a Building Emergency Notification System. This system will allow the building team to send notifications quickly and reliably in the event of an emergency impacting the building, the surrounding area or the city. To get on this list, please provide your cell number to the Business Administrator.
-
Natural disasters that could occur include hurricanes and, in the rare instance, tornadoes or earthquakes. If there is advanced notice of the possibility of a natural disaster, either the Executive Director or Business Administrator will advise if the office will close. If you are at the office when a natural disaster occurs, please follow the guidance of local emergency personnel. Best practice includes staying away from windows and sheltering in place unless otherwise notified.
-
Droste utilizes a combination of clinical judgment and the CSSRS Assessment Tool to determine the level of risk for clients reporting suicidal ideation (Pediatric CSSRS HERE).
If a clinician determines there is imminent risk, call 911. Always inform the Executive Director if EMS is called. If you do involve emergency services and are working with the client remotely, stay on phone with the client until help arrives.
If a clinician assesses a client presents imminent risk to another person (homicidal ideation), contact law enforcement. If a client may pose a risk to others and owns a gun, comply with the Red Flag Gun Protection Law HERE.

Get to safe place, either a barricaded and locked office or, if possible, leave the office. Call 911 immediately.
Healthy & Safety
-
Twice a week an outside company comes to vacuum/clean Droste offices. Additionally, the waiting area is disinfected Tuesday-Thursday by the Business Administrator.
Therapists are responsible for making sure the office they use is tidy when they leave, including removal of garbage from the room. Garbage should be taken to the large garbage bin in the Team Break Room.
There are disinfecting supplies in each therapy room as well as common rooms (conference room, break room and near the front desk).
Each office is equipped with a plug in air purifier. There is also a larger air purifier near the waiting room.
-
Masks are available and should be worn if you have a respiratory or communicable illness. Please ask the front desk.
-
Each office at Droste has an air filter that should be plugged in when the office is in use. Additionally, there is a large air filter near the waiting room which turned on when the space is opened and turned off when the space is closed.
If any person is positive for COVID and was onsite within the window of contagion, let the Executive Director know so others can be notified if they were potentially exposed to COVID.
Opening & Closing The Space
-
Opening The Space
If you are the first person in the space, please:
Unlock the deadbolt on the front door
Turn on the lamps in the waiting room including the salt lamp

Please make sure the door is closed as you exit the room.
Please make sure you lock the deadbolt on the front door as well.
Absence / Vacations
Please inform Droste’s Business Administrator if you will not be coming into the office as regularly scheduled. This helps us to know who is in the space in the event of an emergency as well as to advise colleagues who will be in.
Please inform your supervisor and the Business Administrator of vacations regardless of if you are virtual or in the office. Your supervisor will need to know of vacations in order to provide case coverage and the Business Administrator needs to know if regularly reserved rooms are available as well as if your client reaches out to the office.
Book/Reserve a Room
Anyone looking to book/reserve a room for your Droste clients, please contact Droste Business Administrator to see if a room is available. A room schedule is posted in the kitchen by the mail boxes on the bulletin board weekly, however changes may be made after the schedule is posted.
Droste Practitioners renting space for non-Droste clients
Droste’s Business Administrator coordinates rentals for Droste practitioners who wish to reserve space for non-Droste clients on either an hourly, half-day, daily, or monthly basis. Rental rates vary depending on the room reserved and the amount of hours requested. Please contact the Business Administrator for rates.
Droste provides discounted rates for practitioners who volunteer their time to see Droste clients (private practitioners who are not paid per session like fee-for-service practitioners).
Non-Droste Practitioners renting space
Droste’s Business Administrator directly coordinates rentals to non-Droste practitioners who have a regular schedule of either half-day, daily, or monthly rentals. Priority is given to monthly and daily rentals.
Professional Conduct
Everyone at Droste is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, treating colleagues, clients, and visitors with respect and courtesy. Behavior that disrupts the workplace environment, such as harassment, discrimination, or violence, will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or contract.
Company resources, including but not limited to equipment, facilities, and supplies, should be used responsibly and for legitimate business purposes only. Personal use of company resources should be kept to a minimum and must not interfere with job duties or productivity. This includes internet usage; activity on the Droste wifi is not private and should align with professional conduct standards.
