  • We provide many services such as individual therapy sessions starting from age 5+, couple and relationship therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and professional supervision and coaching.

  • Therapy is important because it provides individuals with a space to discuss and delve into their feelings and behaviors.

Additionally, therapy can provide a chance for personal growth by developing insight into patterns that might be getting in the way of said growth and relationships, learning and practicing healthy coping skills, and identifying and working towards life goals.

  • We welcome and provide services to individuals ages 5 and up, couples, and families.

We provide services regardless of a person’s race, religion, gender, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or economic circumstances.

  • While we are able to provide referrals for these services, we do not provide psychiatric services, medication management, and/or substance use treatments.

  • The first step is to reach out to us to let us know that you're interested either by phone, email, or through our contact form. We will respond by phone or email to discuss what your fee would be and if you would like to proceed with an intake.

  • Clients have highly recommended Droste for our trusted therapists, care, and supportive environment for anyone seeking mental health services.

    Individual testimonials:

“Over the past decade I've worked with several therapists, with limited success. Fortunately, a dear friend referred me to Droste MH during a particularly difficult season of my life. I was struggling with major challenges including marital issues, unfulfilled career aspirations, addiction, resulting in a deflated self-image and depression. Through consistent work with my trusted therapist, working a 12-step program, and ongoing couples therapy, my life has transformed over the past few years. I subsequently have referred several friends to the agency. I'm forever grateful for the care and support of the wonderful people at Droste MH and highly recommend this clinic for anyone searching for mental health services in the tri-state area.”

"You really listened to what I needed. My last therapist was nice, but you made me feel like I was progressing--like I could feel better."

"I wasn't sure therapy could help and didn't really understand how therapy was supposed to work. My therapist at Droste wasn't phased by my skepticism and helped me figure out what I wanted to be different in my life and the first step towards change. I would not be where I am without the support of Droste"

"I came to Droste after months of looking for a therapist. Everyone I called through my insurance wasn't taking clients and the private practitioners I called were ridiculously expensive. Droste worked with me to set a fee I could afford."

"I have struggled with depression for years and have tried therapy on and off. My therapist at Droste has helped me develop ways to cope with the depressive feelings I struggle with. She has helped encourage me to look at where I have power in my life and, more importantly, learn to cope with and set boundaries around things that are not within my control."

"I have been a client of DMHS since 2011. My initial reason for seeking a therapist was to cope with a loss. Shortly after beginning sessions, however, I realized how powerful therapy can be not only for dealing with grief but also as a tool for personal growth and improving my overall well-being. Through the process, I've become a more resilient person and a better communicator. In my experience, the therapists and staff at DMHS are skilled and compassionate professionals who sincerely care about their patients. They are committed to delivering high quality, affordable mental health services to New Yorkers. I personally recommend DMHS to anyone interested in therapy because it has truly made a positive impact in my life."

    Testimonials from partner organizations:

School 1: Over the past two years we have seen a significant increase in mental and behavioral health requests from our students, families and staff. Due to the nationwide increase in demand, these requests have been unsatisfied due to low supply. The partnership with Droste has opened the door to therapeutic services for our students and staff while also eliminating one of the biggest barriers -COST! We are so grateful to be able to share this resource with our community and look forward to more strategic work in the coming months.

School 2: Droste performs a valuable service for our students. The agency has always been helpful, but due to the effects of the pandemic the agency has become more important. When our families needed therapy, they did not have to wait to get assistance. Therapy was made available in a timely fashion. This is important because when families are struggling, they cannot wait, their suffering increases. The families felt important and appreciated the attention that they were given. Financially, families are struggling to make ends meet and therapy is not always a priority because of the price. Droste has enabled our families to put a priority on their mental health. Thank you for assisting our students and families.

School 3: As the guidance counselor of a Catholic high school, I have struggled for years to find my students' mental health resources. Often our students had nowhere to turn, either because they had no insurance, or their insurance only paid for a few sessions, or they were too afraid or embarrassed to ask their parents to take them to speak to someone. Having the opportunity to work with Droste has been a true blessing. The ability to refer students, parents, and teachers to competent mental health services has had an immediate impact on our school. Some of our students have come into my office crying tears of joy because someone is listening to them. In some cases, these services have been a lifeline for desperate parents trying to connect with their children. Between COVID and the war in Ukraine, our students have been hurting. We did what we could, but we were mostly powerless. With this priceless resource, we are able to support our families. It is the most important connection I've made in my entire time working at our school.

School 4: Having Droste partner with our school has been very crucial and beneficial. This past year students and families have been navigating the difficulties that resulted from the pandemic, the lock down, remote schooling, and families undergoing difficult circumstances due to the pandemic. Now more than ever, our students need more mental health support. Because of this partnership, our students are provided social/emotional/mental support which allows for more room for the school staff to focus on SEL support in the classrooms and for our families. Our families have expressed how incredibly grateful they are to have this resource and to have the additional support for their children

School 5: Droste has been such an impactful resource at Brilla Public Charter Schools. This organization has been a crucial resource during one of the most difficult times that the Brilla Community has experienced, as we experienced the loss of one of our beloved students this past Spring. This event has had a major impact on our community and Droste has been available to provide Grief support for our students. This has ensured that all students that need support are not left without services, as having only two Social Workers on our campus during this time has been challenging. Our students look forward to having sessions with members of this organization, and have advocated to continue with their sessions until the last day of school. MDCS has been so flexible and supportive by extending these much needed services for our students and Brilla will forever be grateful for this partnership.

  • Yes, we work with interns. All clinical interns are in the second year of a master’s level graduate program in mental health counseling, social work, or marriage and family counseling. Clinical interns work under close supervision of a licensed therapist.

Discounted rates are offered for clients interested in working with an intern and supervisors review each potential case to ensure it is appropriate for the intern’s skill level.

  • Once we are contacted and you agree to an intake then one of our intake specialists will reach out to schedule a time for our phone intake, which will take approximately 45 minutes.

This intake consists of questions about what brings you to therapy, your goals, preferences, and a bit of your personal history. After the intake, you will be contacted to discuss therapists that match your availability and preferences.

  • Therapy does not last forever. If you are thinking of stopping therapy, we encourage you to bring this up with your therapist to explore your motivation for wanting to stop therapy. This gives you the opportunity to have closure and to review with your therapist what you worked on in therapy and what you accomplished.

Sometimes, even if there are still outstanding therapeutic goals, you may want to stop therapy because of time limitations or other priorities. This is ok and we encourage you to be honest about your reasoning with your therapist.

If you stop therapy, you can always come back to therapy in the future.

  • No, unfortunately we do not accept walk-ins. All our appointments need to be scheduled in advance. Entry to the office is not allowed for those without an appointment.

  • We take your privacy seriously. We use an electronic health record system called Therapy Notes to store client data. Your therapist will review limits of confidentiality with you in session, but in general the following people have access to client data:

    • Our Business Administrator has access to client names, set fees, and scheduled or missed appointments in order to handle billing.

    • Our Executive Director has access to all client data.

    • If your therapist is supervised by someone other than our Executive Director, the supervisor has access to client records for those therapists they supervise.

    • All demographic information is aggregated and personally identifiable information is removed.

  • Droste Mental Health Services, Inc gets its name from a Good Shepherd Sister, Maria Droste zu Vischering, who was renowned for her ability to console those who came to her in pain. We are committed to continuing that work through the provision of quality psychotherapy aimed at not only alleviating suffering but helping people to live full and purposeful lives.

Droste, however, does not provide religiously based counseling or services and our therapists come from a variety religious backgrounds. Droste is committed to providing an inclusive environment and specifically seeks to welcome those communities who have been marginalized including the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.
